Time Magazine (January 10) has joined Billboard (November 9) in weighing in on the vinyl comeback we wrote about last October.New numbers bolster the claim that records became a lot more popular last year.  SoundScan registered a 15.4 percent uptick in vinyl sales in 2007, after it had declined 43 percent between 2000 and 2006.

When you factor in all of the used vinyl that changes hands at record fairs, garage sales, used record stores, and eBay, which SoundScan doesn't track, the effect is even more pronounced.

Who would have guessed that as music went digital, it would also go analog?  I guess we'll have to file this one under Newton's third law of motion: to each action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
